Responsibilities: UX and UI design, content creation
Client: RWD Technologies
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, Post-its, pen & paper
RWD Technologies provided extensive training for oil and gas workers throughout Canada. My role was to capture critical health and safety knowledge from engineers and linesmen working in the field, translating that material into refined, approachable learning content. I oversaw the creation of detailed information graphics, engaging interactive games and test tools, all housed within a contemporary, scaleable and visually appealing interface.
Accelerated Knowledge Capture and Design Execution
The E-learning courseware focused primarily around safety operating procedures with high-pressure, extremely dangerous materials and equipment. I traveled to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta to work on-site with client representatives, knowledge experts and field workers, helping to ensure the design of course content was 100% accurate. This close collaboration helped to expedite the entire project, and strengthen the client-vendor relationship.
Process and Iteration
The biggest design challenges on this project laid in the creation and validation of a wide range of complicated, sensitive information-graphics and interactive evaluation features. The project also needed a fully scaleable interface, one that could be used across a number of platforms, by users with varied computer experience levels. Effective and open communication with the client was critical during this entire process.
